Taking Control Of Your Data

Taking control of your data is not about disappearing. It is about deciding what gets shared, with whom, and for how long.

Start with the accounts that can unlock other accounts: email, password manager, phone provider, Apple/Google/Microsoft account, banking, domain registrar, and Git platforms.

  • Use a password manager for unique passwords.
  • Turn on MFA, preferably passkeys or security keys for high-value accounts.
  • Keep recovery codes somewhere you can reach during a bad day.
  • Remove apps and browser extensions that still have account access.
  • Check whether old emails, passwords, or phone numbers were exposed in breaches.
